allergic contact dermatitis The form of dermatitis that results from a delayed allergic reaction to contact with an allergen. Characterized by inflammatory papules and vesicles. Can be caused by fragrances, small molecule preservatives, etc.

allergic contact dermatitis Delayed or type IV immunologic contact dermatitis, similar to poison ivy dermatitis. This allergic reaction is usually due to the chemicals in latex gloves. These reactions develop slowly, usually appearing in 18 - 24 hours, peaking at 48 hours, and resolving in 72 - 96 hours. It is the second most common skin reaction.
