[EC 4.3.2.2] an enzyme of the lyase class that catalyzes the cleavage of adenylosuccinate to form fumarate and AMP. The enzyme occurs in the liver where it catalyzes several steps in purine nucleotide biosynthesis; in muscle it is involved in the utilization of energy. Called also adenylosuccinase.
