absence seizure A specific type of seizure in which a person does not lose consciousness but goes into an altered state for a very short period of time.

absence seizure Also called a Petit Mal Seizure. A seizure of such brief duration that it is difficult to recognize. According to who you talk to, absence seizures are either very rare in dogs or unrecognized.

Often mistaken for daydreaming. Usually begins in childhood. Outgrown by approximately 75% of children. Formerly called petit mal.
