[USP] an alkaloid chemically similar to reserpine, from Pausinystalia yohimbe (=Corynanthe yohimbi) and from Rauwolfia serpentina. It possesses alpha-adrenergic blocking properties and is used as a sympathicolytic and mydriatic, and for the treatment of impotence; administered orally.
