| VATS |
Short for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. A surgical procedure performed inside the chest with the help of a camera on a tube. In VATS, several small incisions (cuts) are made in the chest. Doctors insert the tube with the camera through one incision, and tools to work with through the others. The camera helps the doctors see inside the chest to operate.

A word made from the first letters of a group of birth defects. It is used when all of these birth defects affect the same child. The birth defects are: A constellation of vertebral defects, anal atresia, tracheoesophageal fistula with oesophageal atresia, and renal and radial anomalies; associated with Fanconi's anaemia.

according to ayurveda, one of the three doshas, or principles of constitution of the body, condensed from the elements air and ether. Vata is the principle of kinetic energy in the body and is concerned with the nervous system and with circulation, movement, and pathology at all levels—cell, organ, and body. It is eliminated from the body through defecation.
