A high-speed communications line, sometimes called T-1 carrier, originally developed to carry multiple conversations over standard twisted-pair telephone wiring. Currently, T1 provides digital communications and Internet access at the rate of 1.54 Mbps. T1 speed is attained through multiplexing 24 separate 64 kbps channels into a single data stream.
