| Selenomonas |
a genus of gram-negative, anaerobic bacteria of the family Bacteroidaceae, found in the gastrointestinal tract of mammals and in contaminated river water, made up of motile, kidney- to crescent-shaped cells occurring singly and in chains. It includes the species S. sputi´gena, found in the human oral cavity, and S. ruminan´tium, found in the rumen contents of animals.
