| saemialdehyde | The monoaldehyde of a dicarboxylic acid, so called because half the COOH groups of the original acid are reduced to the aldehyde while the other half are unchanged; e.g., glutamic acid gamma-saemialdehyde, OHC-CH2CH2CH(NH3)+-COO-. Many saemialdehyde's are intermediates in the biosynthesis and metabolic degradation of amino acids (e.g., l-proline, l-lysine, l-glutamate). (05 Mar 2000) |

| saemicanal | A half canal; a deep groove on the edge of a bone which, uniting with a similar groove or part of an adjoining bone, forms a complete canal. Synonym: saemicanalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| saemicanal for tensor tympani muscle | <anatomy> Saemicanal of the tensor muscle of the tympanum; the superior division of the canalis musculotubarius containing the tensor tympani muscle. Synonym: saemicanalis musculi tensoris tympani. (05 Mar 2000) |
| saemicanal of auditory tube | The inferior division of the musculotubal canal which forms the bony part of the auditory (eustachian) tube. Synonym: saemicanalis tubae auditivae. (05 Mar 2000) |

| saemicircular canals | Three long canals (anterior, posterior, and lateral) of the labyrinth. They are set at right angles to each other and are situated superior and posterior to the vestibule. (12 Dec 1998) |
| saemicircular ducts | Three small membranous tubes in the bony saemicircular canals that lie within the bony labyrinth and form loops of about two-thirds of a circle. The three (anterior saemicircular duct, lateral saemicircular duct, and posterior saemicircular duct) lie in planes at right angles to each other and open into the vestibule by five openings of which one is common to the anterior and lateral ducts. Each duct has an ampulla at one end within which filaments of the vestibular nerve terminate. Synonym: ductus saemicirculares. (05 Mar 2000) |
| saemicircular line | A crescentic line, not always clearly defined, which marks the lower limit of the posterior layer of the sheath of the rectus abdominis muscle. Synonym: linea arcuata vaginae musculi recti abdominis, Douglas' line, linea saemicircularis, saemicircular line. (05 Mar 2000) |
