an order of parasitic intestinal flagellate protozoa (class Zoomastigophorea, subphylum Mastigophora), characterized by the presence of two to four flagella, one of which is turned posteriorly and associated with a ventral cytosomal region; Golgi apparatus and mitochondria are absent. Representative genera include Chilomastix and Retortamonas.
