Recommended dietary allowance. Set by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine, the RDA is the average daily dietary intake level sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements of nearly all (97-98%) healthy individuals in a specific life stage and gender group (eg, women from 19-50 years of age). It is intended as a goal for daily intake of specific nutrients by individuals.
