These are the standard jacks which are used to transfer a video signal from a source (like a VCR) to a TV. In part because they mix the color and black and white portions of a video signal, composit video connections can't produce a picture as sharp as S-Video or Component Video connections, but they're much better than the screw-on RF connections by which most VCRs are connected to most TVs.
