poloxamer any of a series of nonionic surfactants of the polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene copolymer type, having the general formula HO(C2H4O)a(C3H6O)b- (C2H4O)c H, where a = c; the molecular weights of the members of the series vary from about 1000 to more than 16,000. The term is used in conjunction with a numerical suffix for individual unique identification of products that may be used as a food, drug, or cosmetic. Poloxamers may be surfactants, emulsifiers, or stabilizers.
