  • Positive Transcriptional Elongation Factor B - »õâ A transcriptional elongation factor complex that is comprised of a heterodimer of CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE 9 and one of several CYCLINS including cyclin T1, T2 and K. It functions by phosphorylating the carboxy-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA POLYMERASE II, which results in more processive transcription complexes.
Synonyms : P-TEFb, Positive Transcription Elongation Factor B, tat-Associated Kinase, tat Associated Kinase
  • Positive-Pressure Respiration - »õâ A method of mechanical ventilation in which pressure is maintained to increase the volume of gas remaining in the lungs at the end of expiration, thus reducing the shunting of blood through the lungs and improving gas exchange.
Synonyms : End-Expiratory Pressure, Positive, End-Expiratory Pressures, Positive, Positive End Expiratory Pressure, Positive End-Expiratory Pressures, Positive Pressure Respiration, Positive-Pressure Respirations, Pressure, Positive End-Expiratory
  • Positive-Pressure Respiration, Intrinsic - »õâ Non-therapeutic positive end-expiratory pressure occurring frequently in patients with severe airway obstruction. It can appear with or without the administration of external positive end-expiratory pressure (POSITIVE-PRESSURE RESPIRATION). It presents an important load on the inspiratory muscles which are operating at a mechanical disadvantage due to hyperinflation. Auto-PEEP may cause profound hypotension that should be treated by intravascular volume expansion, increasing the time for expiration, and/or changing from assist mode to intermittent mandatory ventilation mode. (From Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, 12th ed, p1127)
    Synonyms : AutoPEEP, Non-Therapeutic Positive-Pressure Respiration, Nontherapeutic Positive-Pressure Respiration, Positive-Pressure Respiration, Non-Therapeutic, Positive-Pressure Respiration, Nontherapeutic, Respiration, Non-Therapeutic Positive-Pressure, Auto PEEP
  • Positron-Emission Tomography - »õâ An imaging technique using compounds labelled with short-lived positron-emitting radionuclides (such as carbon-11, nitrogen-13, oxygen-15 and fluorine-18) to measure cell metabolism. It has been useful in study of soft tissues such as CANCER; CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM; and BRAIN. SPECT is closely related to PET, but uses isotopes with longer half-lives and resolution is lower.
Synonyms : PET Scans, Positron Emission Tomography, Scan, PET, Scans, PET, Tomography, Positron Emission
  • Post and Core Technique - »õâ Use of a metal casting, usually with a post in the pulp or root canal, designed to support and retain an artificial crown.
Synonyms : Dental Dowel, Dowel, Dental, Dowels, Dental, Post Technic, Post Technique, Post and Core Technic, Post-Core Technic, Post Technics, Post Techniques, Post-Core Technics, Technic, Post, Technic, Post-Core, Technics, Post, Technics, Post-Core, Technique, Post
