PCV Packed cell volume. PCV, hematocrit: A laboratory test to monitor the relative number of red blood cells present in the blood. A blood sample is placed in a tiny glass tube and spun in a centrifuge. The cells are heavier than the plasma and are compacted at one end of the tube. After the tube is spun, it is examined and the packed cell volume is determined as the percentage of the red cellular portion relative to the total amount of blood in the tube (ie, remainder being the plasma). ...

PCV (Also "idiopathic polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy") - a distinct form of choroidal neovascularization (CNV), specifically, an inner choroidal vascular abnormality with two distinct components: a network of branching vessels predominantly external to the choriocapillaris, and terminal aneurysmal dilatations, sometimes clinically seen as reddish-orange spheroidal, or polypoidal, vascular lesions. For more information, see "Eye Diseases" on the MD Support web site.

PCV System that controls the flow of crankcase vapors into the engine intake manifold, where they are burned in combustion rather than being discharged into the atmosphere.

PCV system for removing blow-by gases from the crankcase and returning them, through the carburetor intake manifold, to the combustion chamber, where the recirculated hydrocarbons are burned, thus reducing hydrocarbon emissions to the atmosphere. A PCV valve, operated by engine vacuum, controls the flow of gases from the crankcase. ...

PCV The packed cell volume (PCV) or hematocrit (Hct) is a measure of RBC numbers, expressed as a percentage of the total volume of blood. The PCV, by common usage, has become synonymous with the Hct. Traditionally the PCV is obtained by centrifuging an anticoagulated blood sample (spun crit); with automated counters this value is calculated from the measured Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) and RBC count. This is the reason that laboratory values may differ slightly from in-clinic values. ...
