A common disorder in women caused by a hormonal imbalance. Symptoms of PCOS include irregular or no periods, acne, obesity and excess hair growth. This disorder often prevents ovulation (the release of an oocyte by the ovary), leading to infertility.

| PCOS |
Also known as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome. A condition where multiple cysts appear in the ovary. Abnormal hormone imbalance can arise causing problems with ovulation. Diagnosed by blood test, vaginal ultrasound and signs such as increase in body weight, excessive hair growth and acne. These signs do not always manifest themselves in PCOS.
