a genus of insects related to bedbugs but having hairy bodies covered by long silklike coats; they are found on birds and in their nests. O. hiru´dinis is found on barn swallows in Europe and sometimes invades homes and attacks humans, causing severe irritation. O. vica´rius is found on swallows in North America.
