| Neorickettsia |
a genus of bacteria of the tribe Ehrlichieae, family Rickettsiaceae, order Rickettsiales. It includes a single species, N. helminthoe´ca, the etiologic agent of salmon poisoning (q.v.) in dogs, wolves, jackals, and foxes. The organism is found in the salmon fluke, Nanophyetus salmincola, a parasite of various fish, especially salmon and trout, and is transmitted by ingestion of raw infected fish.
