accessory molecules Cell surface adhesion molecules on T-cells that are involved in binding of one cell to another cell or in signal transduction, e.g., CD4.
(05 Mar 2000)
adhesion molecules Molecules that are involved in T helper-accessory cell, T helper-B-cell, and T cytotoxic-target cell interactions.
(05 Mar 2000)
recombinant DNA molecules A combination of DNA molecules of different origin that are joined using recombinant DNA technology.
(12 Dec 1998)
cell adhesion molecules Surface ligands, usually glycoproteins, that mediate cell-to-cell adhesion. Their functions include the assembly and interconnection of various vertebrate systems, as well as maintenance of tissue integration, wound healing, morphogenic movements, cellular migrations, and metastasis.
(12 Dec 1998)
cell adhesion molecules, neuronal Surface ligands that mediate cell-to-cell adhesion and function in the assembly and interconnection of the vertebrate nervous system. These molecules promote cell adhesion via a homophilic mechanism. These are not to be confused with ncam (neural cell adhesion molecule), now known to be expressed in a variety of tissues and cell types in addition to nervous tissue.
(12 Dec 1998)
cell adhesion molecules, neuron-glia Cell adhesion molecules that mediate neuron-neuron adhesion and neuron-astrocyte adhesion. They are expressed on neurons and schwann cells, but not astrocytes and are involved in neuronal migration, neurite fasciculation, and outgrowth. Ng-cam is immunologically and structurally distinct from ncam (neural cell adhesion molecules).
(12 Dec 1998)
molecules, recombinant DNA A combination of DNA molecules of different origin that are joined using recombinant DNA technology.
(12 Dec 1998)
DNA molecules, recombinant A combination of DNA molecules of different origin that are joined using recombinant DNA technology.
(12 Dec 1998)
absorptive cells of intestine Cell's on the surface of villi of the small intestine and the luminal surface of the large intestine that are characterised by having microvilli on their free surface.
(05 Mar 2000)
air cells Air-containing spaces in the skull.
See: pulmonary alveolus.
(05 Mar 2000)
air cells of auditory tube Occasional small air cells in the inferior wall of the auditory tube, near the tympanic orifice, communicating with the tympanic cavity.
Synonym: cellulae pneumaticae tubae auditivae, air cells of auditory tube.
(05 Mar 2000)
Alpha cells Alpha cell's of pancreas or of anterior lobe of hypophysis.
(05 Mar 2000)
alpha cells of anterior lobe of hypophysis Acidophil cell's that constitute about 35% of the cell's of the anterior lobe. There are two varieties: one that elaborates somatotropin, another that elaborates prolactin.
(05 Mar 2000)
alpha cells of pancreas Cell's of the islets of Langerhans that secrete glucagon.
(05 Mar 2000)
amniogenic cells Cell's from which the amnion develops.
