[USP] a DNA-intercalating agent of the anthracenedione family that causes cross-links and strand breaks and also inhibits type II topoisomerase; used as an antineoplastic agent for the treatment of acute myelogenous leukemia and the palliative treatment of advanced hormone-refractory prostate cancer. It is also used to reduce the frequency and severity of relapses in patients with secondary multiple sclerosis. Administered intravenously.
