[USP] a cytotoxic alkylating agent that is the L-phenylalanine derivative of mechlorethamine, used as an antineoplastic, primarily for treatment of multiple myeloma, administered orally or intravenously; it is also used in regional limb perfusion for melanoma of the extremity, administered by arterial infusion. Called also L-sarcolysin and L-phenylalanine mustard (L-PAM).
