| melasma |
melanosis with sharply demarcated blotchy, brown macules usually in a symmetric distribution on the cheeks and forehead and sometimes the upper lip and neck. It is seen most frequently during pregnancy, at menopause, and in those taking oral contraceptives, but it does occur occasionally in nonpregnant women who are not taking oral contraceptives and in men. A similar pattern of facial hyperpigmentation may be associated with chronic liver disease. Called also chloasma and mask of pregnancy.
