single or multiple transverse white bands on the fingernails; they occur especially in association with arsenic poisoning and in other trace element intoxications and have been reported in leprosy, septicemia, dissecting aortic aneurysm, and acute and chronic renal failure. Called Aldrich-Mees l's.
