M-mode ultrasound Motion mode display: an ultrasonic display mode in which the motion of structures is seen on the vertical axis of the display, used, e.g., to show the movement of the heart's valves and walls during diastole and systole. SYN:
Ãâó:
M-mode e. that recording the amplitude and rate of motion (M) of a moving structure in real time by repeatedly measuring the distance of the structure from the single transducer at a given moment. It yields a monodimensional image often called an “icepick” view of the heart.

M-mode s. the image obtained using M-mode echocardiography, showing the motion (M) over time of a monodimensional (“icepick”) section of the heart.

M-mode After a sensitizing jelly is applied, a hand-held probe is moved across the chest to capture sound waves. These sound waves are bounced off the heart to gauge motion, or lack of motion, in the heart muscle at various levels.
