a classification of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas based on their presumed cells of origin. It stresses the distinction between B-cell, T-cell, and lymphocytic lymphomas, with the B-cell and T-cell types having several subtypes that can be arranged by grade of malignancy. A later classification is the Revised European American Lymphoma (REAL) Classification.
