a genus of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria of the family Enterobacteriaceae, occurring in human clinical specimens. It is an occasional opportunistic pathogen, causing respiratory and urinary infections. The type species is K. ascorba´ta.
