a genus of amebas (superclass Rhizopoda, order Amoebida) parasitic in mammals, having a vesicular nucleus, with a large chromatin-rich endosome surrounded by a layer of globules, and achromatic strands between the endosome and membrane; cysts are usually uninucleate with a large glycogenous vacuole that readily stains brown with iodine.
