intracellular <anatomy> Being or occurring within a body cell or within the body cells.
(09 Oct 1997)
intracellular canaliculus <cell biology> A fine canal formed by invagination of the cell membrane into the cytoplasm of a cell, such as those of the parietal cells of the stomach.
(05 Mar 2000)
intracellular digestion <cell biology> Digestion within the boundaries of a cell, such as occurs in the protozoa and in phagocytes.
(05 Mar 2000)
intracellular enzyme <enzyme> An enzyme that performs its functions within the cell that produces it; most enzyme's are intracellular enzyme's.
Synonym: endoenzyme.
(05 Mar 2000)
intracellular fluid The fluid within the tissue cells, constituting about 30 to 40% of the body weight.
(05 Mar 2000)
intracellular membranes Membranes of subcellular structures.
(12 Dec 1998)
intracellular toxin <protein> Heat stable polysaccharide like toxin bound to a bacterial cell. The term is used more specifically to refer to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. There are three parts to the molecule, the Lipid A (six fatty acid chains linked to two glucosamine residues), the core oligosaccharide (branched chain of ten sugars) and a variable length polysaccharide side chain (up to 40 sugar units in smooth forms) that can be removed without affecting the toxicity (rough LPS). Some endotoxin is probably released into the medium and endotoxin is responsible for many of the virulent effects of gram-negative bacteria.
(18 Nov 1997)
adenovirus e1a proteins Proteins transcribed from the e1a region of adenovirus which are involved in positive regulation of transcription of the early genes.
(12 Dec 1998)
adenovirus e1b proteins Proteins transcribed from the e1b region of adenovirus which are involved in regulation of the levels of early and late gene expression.
(12 Dec 1998)
adenovirus e1 proteins The very first viral gene products synthesised after cells are infected with adenovirus. The e1 region of the genome has been divided into two major transcriptional units, e1a and e1b, each expressing proteins of the same name (adenovirus e1a proteins and adenovirus e1b proteins).
(12 Dec 1998)
adenovirus e2 proteins Proteins transcribed from the e2 region of adenovirus. Several of these are required for viral DNA replication.
(12 Dec 1998)
adenovirus e3 proteins Proteins transcribed from the e3 region of adenovirus but not essential for viral replication. The e3 19k protein mediates adenovirus persistence by reducing the expression of class I major histocompatibility complex antigens on the surface of infected cells.
(12 Dec 1998)
adenovirus e4 proteins Proteins transcribed from the e4 region of adenovirus. The e4 19k protein transactivates transcription of the adenovirus e2f protein and complexes with it.
(12 Dec 1998)
adenovirus early proteins <molecular biology, protein, virology> Proteins encoded by adenoviruses that are synthesised prior to, and in the absence of, viral DNA replication.
The proteins are involved in both positive and negative regulation of expression in viral and cellular genes, and also affect the stability of viral mRNA. Some are also involved in oncogenic transformation.
(12 Dec 1998)
amino acids, peptides, and proteins Amino acids and chains of amino acids connected by peptide linkages.
(12 Dec 1998)

  • Intracellular Calcium-Sensing Proteins - »õâ Intracellular signaling peptides and proteins that bind to CALCIUM. They undergo allosteric changes when bound to CALCIUM that affects their interaction with other signal-transducing molecules. They differ from CALCIUM-SENSING RECEPTORS which sense extracellular calcium levels.
