a family of fungi of the order Hypocreales. It includes the genera Gibberella, Hypocrea, Nectria, and Podostroma, which contain the perfect (sexual) stages of several species of Acremonium, Fusarium, and Trichoderma and the etiologic agents of numerous types of plant wilt.
