16 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone dehydratase <enzyme> From rat intestinal anaerobic bacteria; forms 16-dehydroprogesterone
Registry number: EC 4.2.1.-
Synonym: 16 alpha-dehydratase
(26 Jun 1999)
17a-hydroxyprogesterone 17a-Hydroxy-4-pregnen-3,20-dione;medical use is similar to that of progesterone. The acetate is an orally effective derivative, useful in conditions in which parenterally administered progesterone or the caproate is indicated; it possesses some androgenic potency and may cause virilizing changes in a female foetus. The caproate or hexanoate has essentially the same actions and uses as progesterone, but is more potent and has a longer duration of action. A precursor of the androgens and adrenocortical hormones.

17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone aldolase <enzyme> An enzyme of the lyase class that catalyses the cleavage of the bond between carbons 17 and 20 in 17-alpha hydroxyprogesterone to form delta 4-androstene-3,17-dione, an androgen.
It also catalyses the conversion of 17 alpha-hydroxypregnenolone to dehydroepiandrosterone.
Chemical name: 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone acetaldehyde-lyase
Registry number: EC 4.1.2.30
(12 Dec 1998)
17-hydroxyprogesterone A hydroxyprogesterone with medical uses similar to that of progesterone.
(12 Dec 1998)
21-hydroxyprogesterone 11-Deoxycorticosterone; 21-hydroxypregn-4-ene-3,20-dione;an adrenocortical steroid, principally a biosynthetic precursor of corticosterone and possibly aldosterone, that rarely appears in adrenocortical secretions; a potent mineralocorticoid with no appreciable glucocorticoid activity.
Synonym: 21-hydroxyprogesterone, cortexone, deoxycortone, desoxycortone.
Deoxycorticosterone acetate, desoxycorticosterone acetate;acetate salt used for intramuscular injection for replacement therapy of the adrenocortical steroid.
Deoxycorticosterone pivalate, desoxycorticosterone pivalate;pivalate salt of the steroid.
