a form of pneumonitis attributed to allergic reactions of the alveolar walls of the lungs to amoebae, bacteria, or fungi found in humidifier reservoirs, as well as air conditioners and air cooling equipment. While the disease produces flu-like effects of hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) within 8 hours of exposure, these symptoms resolve within 24 hours, without the long-term lung damage (pulmonary fibrosis) associated with other forms of HP.
