Houssay Bernardo Alberto, 1887–1971. Argentine physiologist; co-winner, with Carl F. Cori and Gerty T. Cori, of the Nobel prize for medicine or physiology in 1947 for his demonstrations that a hormone secreted by the pituitary gland prevents metabolism of sugar and that injections of pituitary extract induce diabetes symptoms.
