| HSK pathway | <biochemistry> Metabolic pathway responsible for primary carbon dioxide fixation in C4 plant photosynthesis. The enzymes that are found in mesophyll chloroplasts include PEP carboxylase, that adds carbon dioxide to phosphoenolpyruvate to give the 4 carbon compound, oxaloacetate. Four carbon compounds are transferred to bundle sheath chloroplasts, where the carbon dioxide is liberated and re fixed by the Calvin Benson cycle. The Hatch Slack Kortshak pathway permits efficient photosynthesis under conditions of high light intensity and low carbon dioxide concentration, avoiding the nonproductive effects of photorespiration. Acronym: HSK pathway (15 Nov 1997) |
| HslVU protease | <enzyme> An ATP-dependent protease in e. Coli; composed of 2 heat shock proteins, the hslu atpase (clpy) and the hslv peptidase (clpq) related to certain beta-type subunits of the 20s proteasome Registry number: EC 3.6.1.- Synonym: clpq gene product, hslv gene product, clpy gene product, hslu gene product (26 Jun 1999) |

| hsp70 | <molecular biology> Widely distributed group of conserved heat-shock proteins of average weight 70 kD. Possess ATP binding domains and may be involved in protein folding or export. (18 Nov 1997) |
| hsp90 | <molecular biology> Widely distributed group of conserved heat-shock proteins of average weight 90 kD. Exact function unknown, but are found associated with steroid hormone receptors and tyrosine kinase oncogene products. May also bind actin and tubulin. (18 Nov 1997) |
