| Graupner's method | An obsolete term for a test of the sufficiency of the heart muscle; if a normal subject takes a measured amount of exercise, the pulse rate rises, and after it has begun to fall the systolic blood pressure begins to rise, reaching its maximum a few minutes after the pulse rate; in the case of a weakened heart, the rise in blood pressure is delayed and the amount of increase diminished; in seriously weakened hearts, a fall in blood pressure occurs.
