| Griffith, Frederick | <person> A bacteriologist who discovered that if he put pathogenic (disease-causing) pneumococcus bacteria which had been killed by heat in with nonpathogenic pneumococcus bacteria which were alive, then the live, nonpathogenic bacteria would become pathogenic.
