Place the patient's thumb in the palm. Passive ulnar deviation of the hand may produce pain at the radial side of the wrist. A sign of De Quervain's tenosynovitis.

| Finkelstein's test |
With the thumb inside the palm, the wrist and hand are ulnarly deviated, causing pain in the abductor tendons of the thumb at the radial styloid. A positive result indicates DeOuervain's tendonitis of the wrist.
