| 설명 | 난소안에 있는 난포에서 분비되는 난포호르몬의 총칭. 여포호르몬, 발정 호르몬이라고도 한다. 에스트로겐이란 생물학적인 명칭이며 동물의 발정작용 외에 여러 가지 작용을 지닌 물질의 총칭이다. 사람에는 20종 이상의 에스트로겐의 종류가 있지만, 그중에서도 estrone, estradiol, estriol의 3가지가 가장 중요하다. 에스트로겐은 비임신시에는 여포호르몬의 조절에 의해서, 주로 난소에서 생성되며, 임신시에는 주로 태반에서 만들어지지만, estriol은 태아의 부신과 태반의 합동작용에 의해서 만든다. 사람에게 있어서 에스트로겐의 주된 작용은 다음과 같은 것이 있다. 1. 제 2차 성징의 발현. 2. 내성기, 질, 외성기의 발육촉진 3. 자궁내막 및 성기 상피의 증식 4. 배란기에 자궁의 입구인 목에 점액을 증량시켜 정자의 통과성을 좋게 한다. 5. 임신시에 성기와 유방 등에 임신성 변화를 일으킨다. 6. 성기의 근육을 증식시켜 운동성을 증가시킨다. 7. 단백질 지질, 무기질 등의 물질대사나 여러 가지 효소의 작용에 영향을 준다. 8. 배란과 생리 주기의 유지에 관여한다. |

| estrogen | <endocrinology, hormone> A generic term for oestrus producing steroid compounds, the female sex hormones. In humans, oestrogen is formed in the ovary, possibly the adrenal cortex, the testis and the foetoplacental unit, it has various functions in both sexes. It is responsible for the development of the female secondary sex characteristics and during the menstrual cycle it acts on the female genitalia to produce an environment suitable for the fertilization, implantation and nutrition of the early embryo. Oestrogen is used in oral contraceptives and as a palliative in cancer of the breast after menopause and cancer of the prostate, other uses include the relief of the discomforts of menopause, inhibition of lactation and treatment of osteoporosis, threatened abortion and various functional ovarian disorders.
