estradiol A female hormone produced by ovarian follicles. The concentration of estrogen in the woman's blood is often measured to determine the degree of her response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with fertility drugs. In general, the higher the estradiol response, the more follicles are likely to be developing and, accordingly, the more eggs are likely to be retrieved.
