| tape | 1. A narrow fillet or band of cotton or linen; a narrow woven fabric used for strings and the like; as, curtains tied with tape. 2. A tapeline; also, a metallic ribbon so marked as to serve as a tapeline; as, a steel tape. Red tape. See Red. <botany> Tape grass, a plant (Vallisneria spiralis) with long ribbonlike leaves, growing in fresh or brackish water; called also fresh water eelgrass, and, in Maryland, wild celery. | radiography, dental, digital | A rapid, low-dose, digital imaging system using a small intraoral sensor instead of radiographic film, an intensifying screen, and a charge-coupled device. It presents the possibility of reduced patient exposure and minimal distortion, although resolution and latitude are inferior to standard dental radiography. A receiver is placed in the mouth, routing signals to a computer which images the signals on a screen or in print. It includes digitizing from X-ray film or any other detector. (12 Dec 1998) |
| general practice, dental | Nonspecialised dental practice which is concerned with providing primary and continuing dental care. (12 Dec 1998) |
| dental tape |
Waxed or unwaxed thin tape used for cleaning and removing plaque from between the teeth.
