D-dimer D-dimer is an end product derived from plasmin-mediated degradation of crosslinked fibrin clots. D-dimer measurement has proved to be a sensitive marker for the evaluation of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). In addition, D-dimer can effectively rule out those patients with a low or a moderate probability of venous thromboembolism (VTE) such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).
