Rare inherited disorder characterized by the absence of an enzyme in the liver. High levels of billirubin result, causing damage to the central nervous system.

an autosomal recessive form of nonhemolytic jaundice due to the absence of the hepatic enzyme glucuronosyltransferase. It is characterized by the presence in the blood of excessive amounts of unconjugated bilirubin and by kernicterus and severe disorders of the central nervous system. Called also congenital hyperbilirubinemia and congenital nonhemolytic jaundice.
