| Bryonia |
a genus of plants of the family Cucurbitaceae, all called bryony. They are poisonous to humans and other animals, containing bryonidin, bryonin, and other glycosides that cause diarrhea and sometimes convulsions. They were formerly used medicinally as strong cathartics.
