infection with filarial worms of the species Brugia malayi and B. timori, the adult forms of which reside in the lymphatics, lymph nodes, and connective tissue; symptoms range from asymptomatic adenitis, to periodic attacks of fever and lymphangitis, to elephantiasis, especially of the lower limbs and feet. Microfilariae circulate in the blood, where they are transmitted to feeding mosquitoes, the vector and intermediate host.
