A boron compound used as an insecticide, particularly against ants and fleas. Although it is considered moderately toxic, boric acid is not volatile and thus does not emit toxic vapors. Formerly used to clean and dress wounds, boric acid is absorbed through broken skin, and deaths have occurred from that use.
