| Bishop score |
a scale used to evaluate the cervix's readiness ('ripeness') for labor. If the Bishop score is low (cervix is closed, hard, and posterior, for example), then an induction is not likely to result in a vaginal birth. If the Bishop score is favorable (cervix is partially effaced and dilated, is soft, etc.) then the induction attempt is more likely to succeed.
