Avicenna (Ibn Sina), or, in Persian, Abu Ali Husain ebn-e Abdollah Ebn-e Sina or Pur-Sina or Ebn-e Sina (as he is usually called) (980 - 1037) was a Persian physician, philosopher, and scientist.
