||

| aspirin | <drug> Acetyl salicylate. An analgesic, antipyretic and antinflammatory drug. It is a potent cyclooxygenase inhibitor and blocks the formation of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid. (18 Nov 1997) |
| regimen | 1. Orderly government; system of order; adminisration. 2. Any regulation or remedy which is intended to produce beneficial effects by gradual operation; especially. <medicine> A systematic course of diet, etc, pursed with a view to improving or preserving the health, or for the purpose of attaining some particular effect, as a reduction of flesh; sometimes used synonymously with hygiene. 3. A syntactical relation between words, as when one depends on another and is regulated by it in respect to case or mood; government. The word or words governed. See: right, and cf. Regal, regime, regiment. Origin: L. Regimen, -inis, fr. Regere to guide, to rule. (12 Mar 1998) |
| preparative regimen | <oncology> The chemotherapy and/or radiation given to BMT patients prior to transplant to kill diseased cells and/or make space for healthy new marrow and/or suppress the immune system so graft rejection does not occur. (31 Dec 1997) |
| adult | A living organism which has attained full growth or maturity. Origin: L. Adultus = grown up (18 Nov 1997) |
| adult lactase deficiency | Onset of lactase deficiency, with resulting milk intolerance and malabsorption, in adulthood. Inherited forms may not be manifested until adulthood; any process that damages the intestinal lining cells can cause lactase deficiency in adults. (05 Mar 2000) |
