alprostadil <chemical> A potent vasodilator agent that increases peripheral blood flow. It inhibits platelet aggregation and has many other biological effects such as bronchodilation, mediation of inflammation, etc.
Pharmacological action: fibrinolytic agent, platelet aggregation inhibitors, vasodilator agents.
Chemical name: Prost-13-en-1-oic acid, 11,15-dihydroxy-9-oxo-, (11alpha,13E,15S)-

glycerin suppository A conical translucent dosage form for rectal administration intended for the relief of constipation; frequently used in young children. Contains glycerin and a stiffening agent such as sodium stearate (a soap). Action is produced by lubrication, water retention, and local irritation.

Commonly used bases are cocoa butter, glycerinated gelatin, hydrogenated vegetable oils, polyethylene glycols of various molecular weights and fatty acid esters of polyethylene glycol.
