a fluoronaphthyridone antibacterial related to the fluoroquinolones, effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, used in the treatment of infections due to susceptible organisms. Alatrofloxacin is the prodrug of trovafloxacin; following intravenous infusion, it is rapidly converted to the active drug.
