What is acetazolamide? Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Carbonic anhydrase is a protein in your body. Acetazolamide reduces the activity of this protein. Acetazolamide is used to treat glaucoma and to treat and to prevent acute mountain sickness (altitude sickness).
