| 17-oxosteroids | <biochemistry> A steroid based molecule that can be measured in urine. A fraction of cortisol is metabolised to 17-ketosteroids and excreted in the urine. Conditions which result in increased serum cortisol (Cushing's syndrome and Cushing's disease) will result in elevations in 17-ketosteroid levels in the urine. (27 Sep 1997) |
